No shortcuts in Tinubu’s bid to revive Nigerian economy

Vice President Kashim Shettima on Tuesday revealed that despite the difficulties faced by Nigerians due to ongoing reforms, President Bola Tinubu’s administration was not looking for shortcuts in its determination to revive the country’s ailing economy.

Shettima gave this assurance at the first edition of the Asiwaju Scorecard series organized by the All Progressives Congress APC Professionals Forum in Abuja.

According to him, the new APC government came at a time when some unpleasant and drastic measures needed to be taken to prevent the weakened economic situation from completely collapsing.

The former Governor of Borno State, represented by his Special Adviser on General Duties, Aliyu Modibbo Umar, stated that the interventions being carried out by his administration were designed to address long-standing problems that have undermined the economy rather than opting for solutions temporary. .

In his analysis, the Vice President explained that the results of the ongoing reforms and interventions have proven promising, adding that they were also proud of the progress made in strengthening the Naira.

He said: “In our pursuit of economic recovery, we must recognize that we are not here to take shortcuts. The path we have chosen is necessary. Indeed, His Excellency President Bola Tinubu has taken difficult but necessary decisions to ensure that the long-term stability and prosperity of Nigeria is never in doubt. He has chosen a path that, while demanding, promises to save our nation from economic decline.

“This started with the calculated elimination of the fuel subsidy. This decision was not made for its own sake, but to redeem the reality of the nation’s unsustainable debt service to income ratio, which had grown to alarming levels in recent years. We took on the challenge of leading the nation through this economic storm, fully aware of the sacrifices that awaited us.

“We are waging a relentless war against corruption, with high-profile cases demonstrating our dedication to this cause. The ongoing digitization of revenue collection across all government sectors is expected to yield significant results and enhance the transparency we have promised to the people of Nigeria.

“As leaders, we must take responsibility for our decisions. We must be guided by data and a clear vision for our nation. That is why we also call for the patience and collective efforts of all Nigerians as we work towards a future of security, prosperity and optimism that serves all.”
