Back-to-back 64s fire Elvira into Soudal Open lead

Spanish golfer Nacho Elvira has fired a second-straight seven-under-par 64 to take control of Belgium’s European tour event, the Soudal Open, at halfway.

Elvira had seven birdies in a bogey-free round at Rinkven International Golf Club in Antwerp to be one stroke ahead of Englishman Ross Fisher, who carded an eight-birdie 63 on Friday.

Romain Langasque stood third, three strokes back after a 67 but Elvira is on pole to record her second victory on the tour after winning the Cazoo Open in 2021.

The most unlikely sight of the day was South African Louis de Jager taking off his shirt and unbuckling his belt to hit a shot out of the water — apparently in an effort to avoid getting muddied. He was in a tie for 23rd.

Australian pair Jason Scrivener and David Micheluzzi both made the halfway cut at four under.

Scrivener had a bogey on his second hole but then reeled off six birdies in his second-round 66, while Micheluzzi carded a second-straight 69.
