Ipswich Town manager Kieran McKenna has reportedly chosen his ‘number one preference’ amid interest from Chelsea, Manchester United and Brighton.

McKenna He gained valuable experience managing under-18 teams at Tottenham Hotspur and Manchester United before taking over as Red Devils first-team coach following the departure of José Mourinho.

The 38-year-old made the admirable decision to leave. Man Utd at the end of 2021 for the opportunity to be a head coach when he joined then League One side Ipswich Town.

The Tractor Boys were reeling in League One when he arrived. But he has masterminded a remarkable rebuild at Portman Road, with McKenna-ball making waves in the Football League while his team massively exceeded expectations to win back-to-back promotions to the Premier League.

McKenna has become the main target for Chelsea, who are also considering Enzo Maresca, Thomas Frank and Roberto De Zerbi.

But the Blues could find themselves snubbed by the Ipswich Town boss, with The times reporting that he will “wait for number one choice, Man Utd, before making his decision.”

“The Ipswich manager is on a four-man shortlist if, as expected, United decide to part ways with the Dutchman after Saturday’s game against Manchester City.

‘The Times revealed on Thursday that United had contacted representatives of their preferred candidates ahead of the cup final. Chelsea’s decision to part ways with Mauricio Pochettino on Tuesday accelerated their plans as both clubs look to recruit players from the same coaching group.

‘McKenna is also wanted by Brighton & Hove Albion and Chelsea. Brighton are understood to have interviewed him on Wednesday but he would prefer to return to Old Trafford.
