PSL promotion playoff draw confirmed

The PSL has confirmed the official draw for the promotion/relegation playoffs on Tuesday night, with three teams vying for a coveted spot in the DStv Premiership.

The playoffs begin on Sunday, June 2 and conclude on Wednesday, June 19, marking the culmination of the season’s fight for promotion to the first division.

AmaTuks (the University of Pretoria), who finished second, and Baroka FC, who finished third in the Motsepe Foundation Championship, will face a DStv Premiership club who will finish in 15th position.

As things stand, Richards Bay FC is in 15th position with 27 points after 29 matches. They will hope Royal AM drop points against Moroka Swallows and win against Stellenbosch FC to avoid the play-offs.

The three clubs were distributed as follows: club one is the one that finished 15th in the DStv Premiership. Clubs two and three are the two teams in the Motsepe Foundation Championship.

HOW THE MOTSEPE FOUNDATION CHAMPIONSHIP COACHES ARE PLANNING FOR THE CRUCIAL GAMES

University of Pretoria coach Tlisane Motaung insists they are well prepared for Baroka and whoever they face in the DStv Premiership.

“Obviously, Baroka are a team with pedigree. A coach with pedigree, a man who has contributed a lot to South African football, producing quality players,” he stated.

“We play good football and we know what we are up against, and also any PSL team that is not in the PSL by chance. They’re going to come here and compete. But we equally knew that when we get to the playoffs, any opponent we face is going to be tough. We have to be prepared”.

Baroka coach Dan Malesela says he also has a plan for the upcoming playoffs.

“Fortunately, as I was sitting during the week, on Thursday. I started thinking about this (the playoffs) and I said that you shouldn’t underestimate things either,” Malesela added.

“You should start planning now. Over time, I started planning for the playoffs and wondered why other teams were struggling in the playoffs once they got to the PSL. Why didn’t other teams win the playoffs?

“So I started looking at what I could do and what I couldn’t do. “I can’t reveal that now because it’s our plan.”
