Singapore’s new Prime Minister Lawrence Wong is ‘consultative but decisive’, says his MP

TOKYO – Singapore’s new Prime Minister Lawrence Wong has a “consultative but also very decisive” approach, his deputy said at Nikkei Asia’s Future Asia conference in Tokyo on Friday, as the city’s first new leader is installed -state in two decades.

Deputy Prime Minister Gan Kim Yong said he “does not expect any major changes” in Singapore’s government policies or international relations under Wong, who was sworn in earlier this month, succeeding Lee Hsien Loong. Gan emphasized that the new administration “means continuity, stability and renewal,” referring to the key message of Wong’s inaugural address.
