One man dead, three injured after flywheel hits bus on Toronto-bound QEW

One man was killed and three others were injured after a bus was hit by a loose tire on Queen Elizabeth Way in St. Catharines.

Provincial police say shortly after 3:30 p.m. Friday, a tire from a passenger van came off and struck a pickup truck before crashing through the windshield of a bus in the Toronto-bound lanes of the highway, just after of the Garden City Skyway Bridge.

A 48-year-old Toronto man who was aboard the bus was pronounced dead at the scene, while three other passengers were seriously injured and taken to nearby hospitals.

No other injuries were reported among the 35 passengers on the bus at the time of the incident.
