Liverpool transfer target ‘says goodbye’ to current team as PSG and Real Madrid also circulate

New Liverpool manager Arne Slot will not officially take over from Jürgen Klopp until June 1, but there will no doubt have already been discussions about which players he would like to bring to Anfield. Together with Richard Hughes, the club’s new sporting director, the pair will try to identify and sign the right targets.

However, the current Liverpool team does not need as many adjustments this summer. Klopp led the club to third place and Liverpool were in the title race until mid-April. Unless a major player leaves this summer, the theme of the summer will be more evolution than revolution.

However, one area the club needs to strengthen is defense. Joël Matip said goodbye to Liverpool this season after eight years at the club. The Cameroonian was one of Klopp’s first signings at Liverpool, but the cult hero suffered a season-ending injury against Fulham in December, and Matip never played for Liverpool again.

Matip’s contract expires at the end of June and he will leave Anfield as a free agent. Therefore, Liverpool need to replace him.

A player who could replace Matip is the current Lille defender, Leny Yoro, who is also saying goodbye. Yoro has become one of the most prominent defenders in Ligue 1, playing 44 games in all competitions for Paulo Fonseca’s team.

Yoro, who is still only 18, has a bright future ahead of him and Liverpool are said to be among the clubs interested in signing him. According to the French newspaper L’Equipe, Yoro has said goodbye to everyone at the Lille training ground with a view to his departure.

The report claims that the 18-year-old has presented staff members with a t-shirt to thank them, as the teenager only has one year left on his contract and is unlikely to renew it. Lille are likely to sell this summer as they do not want Yoro to leave for free in a year’s time.
