Barcelona coach Xavi accepts his dismissal but does not reveal the reasons

Barcelona coach Xavi Hernández has said that he accepts the club’s decision to fire him but that he would have liked to leave under different circumstances.

Barca president Joan Laporta told Xavi on Friday that he would not continue beyond Sunday’s final game of the season in Seville, and sources told ESPN that Hansi Flick will replace him.

“I spoke with the president and he told me his reasons for considering the need for a change,” Xavi said at a press conference on Saturday, although he did not want to give more details about the reasons given by Laporta.

“The only thing I can do is accept and respect him. He is the one who makes the decisions at the Club. We shook hands, we hugged and we wished each other the best. Now I will be just another fan in the stands.

“The decision was made thinking about the interest of the club because they believe that a change of direction is necessary.

“I have stayed motivated, hungry and ambitious until now. I believe in the team, that we could do big things with small changes, but it didn’t happen that way.”
