Yanga SC defeats Ihefu FC and prepares for the Azam FC final

Young Africans (Yanga SC) will face Azam in the final of the CRDB Bank Federation Cup after defeating Ihefu 1-0 at the Sheikh Amri Abeid Stadium in Arusha.

Stephanie Aziz Ki scored the invaluable goal in the 101st minute of overtime after the teams were tied goalless in the regular period of play. She received a well-timed cross from substitute Pacome Zouzoua to beat Ihefu goalkeeper Khomeini Khomein, who had an outstanding performance earlier.

The final of the competition will be held at the newly built Tanzanite Stadium in Babati on June 2. It will be the first time that Babati has organized such a lucrative football match that attracts two teams that have quality players in their squads.

However, from the start, both Yanga and Ihefu were impressive in defense and attack, it is not surprising that neither of them managed to advance in a normal period of play.

For Yanga, his chance to score came in the 28th minute, when Maxi Nzengeli sent a sweet cross into the Ihefu area, but Aziz Ki shot wide to the relief of the home side. In the 43rd minute, Yanga full-back Nickson Kibabage was sidelined after suffering an injury which paved the way for Joyce Lomalisa.

On the stroke of half-time, Joseph Mahundi wasted one of Ihefu’s big chances when his shot went wide. When the whistle blew to stop the first 45 minutes, Mahundi had to be consoled by his teammates because he seemed depressed about not having taken advantage of the lead on the way to the locker room.
