After being snubbed four times by the Judicial Service Commission (JSC), Justice David Unterhalter was finally promoted to the Supreme Court of Appeal (SCA), while Justice Piet Koen, who recused himself from the Jacob Zuma trial, it got lost.

The JSC on Monday interviewed 10 judges for three vacancies in the SCA and chose Unterhalter, Gauteng High Court Judge Raylene Keightley and Eastern Cape High Court Judge John Smith as its chosen candidates.

Keightley had given an impressive interview and highlighted that during her time as acting SCA judge, she had made rulings that did not require substantial reworking by her colleagues.
