Girl (13) found dead floating in a dam -The Southern Eye

Last week, a 13-YEAR-OLD girl from Zvishavane was found dead floating in a dam, four kilometers from her home, after her grandparents discovered she had gone missing from her bedroom cabin.

Midlands Provincial Police spokesperson Inspector Emmanuel Mahoko confirmed the mysterious death.

“Zimbabwe Republic Police confirm that they are investigating a case that occurred on May 16 at Mataga in Zvishavane, where the body of a 13-year-old girl was discovered floating in the Manyanga Dam,” Mahoko said yesterday.

“The circumstances indicate that the minor went to bed around 7 p.m., while her grandparents also went to sleep in their bedroom.

“At around 12 midnight, Alfeyo Shoko, the girl’s grandfather (apparently) heard her calling him and went out to check, but saw nothing before going back to sleep.”

Mahoko said that the next morning, Shoko found the girl’s bedroom door wide open and when she entered she discovered that she had disappeared.

He said a search was carried out with the help of other villagers and the teenager’s body was found floating in a dam, four kilometers from the farm.

Mahoko said investigations were underway to establish what may have caused the girl’s death and asked anyone who may have information about the girl’s death to report to the nearest police station.
