CAF African Schools Football Championship kicks off in style


Zanzibar’s Amaan Stadium was abuzz with excitement and enthusiasm on Tuesday, May 21 as CAF officially opened the continental finals of the 2024 CAF African Schools Football Championship.

The much-anticipated final, featuring the CAF U-15 Zonal Union men’s and women’s champions, began in style at the newly refurbished stadium, as the quest to be crowned continental champions officially began in Zanzibar.

Before the start of the final, the Opening Ceremony was held showcasing the rich culture of Zanzibar to officially raise the curtain on the four-day tournament which will run until Friday 24 May.

Tuesday’s action began with a match between Togo and Gambia, with the two teams tied goalless.

South Africa faced Uganda in the second women’s match of the day, with both teams also drawing. after a 1-1 draw.

Tanzania recorded the first victory in the women’s division with a hard-fought 1-0 victory over Morocco.

In the men’s section, Benin were narrowly edged out by Guinea in the first leg, as the Guineans fought hard for a 2-1 victory.


In the second match, South Africa comfortably cruised to a 3-0 victory over Libya in the second match of the day, before Tanzania and Senegal shared the spoils in a 0-0 draw.

The action continues on Wednesday 22 May with more CAF African Schools Football Championship action to entertain the locals in Zanzibar.
