Follow the storms as several Chicago-area counties are under a tornado watch – NBC Chicago

Potentially severe storms are making their way toward the Chicago area Tuesday night, with a tornado watch in effect for several counties in the Chicago suburbs.

Scattered wind gusts in excess of 70 miles per hour are possible across the cluster of counties, with a watch in effect until midnight. The watch includes McHenry, DeKalb, Kane, LaSalle and Kendall counties, according to the NWS.

Tornadoes could form with strong to severe thunderstorms expected to hit the area, but the storms could also generate wind gusts of up to 75 miles per hour, according to weather officials.

The rest of the area remains at an “increased” risk of severe weather, with the main threats being isolated tornadoes and gusty winds.
