Nigerian Asisat Oshoala received the best goal of the 2023/24 UEFA Women’s Champions League season, reports

Oshoala scored a stunning bicycle kick during Barcelona’s 5-0 victory over Benfica in their first group match. This goal helped Barcelona win the Champions League for the second year in a row.

With a 4-0 lead, Oshoala was replaced by coach Jonatan Giráldez and quickly made an impact, scoring Barcelona’s fifth goal. This was his only goal in two appearances in the competition before moving mid-season to American side Bay FC.

UEFA announced on Monday that Oshoala’s goal was selected as the best of the tournament.

“The top 10 goals of the 2023/24 UEFA Women’s Champions League have been chosen by the UEFA Technical Observer panel, with Nigerian striker Asisat Oshoala winning Goal of the Season for her overhead kick against Benfica,” UEFA stated.

Other important goals were Barcelona’s Aitana Bonmatí’s goal in the quarterfinals against Brann, who finished second, and Lyon’s Delphine Cascarino’s long-range goal against Benfica, who finished third.

Oshoala made history with Barcelona by becoming the first African player to win three UEFA Women’s Champions League titles. She received a winner’s medal despite her transfer to Bay FC mid-season.

Oshoala played two group stage matches and scored one goal before moving to the United States.

During his five years in Barcelona, Oshoala won the Champions League three times and the Primera División title four times, amassing 15 titles in total.

Oshoala, a six-time African Footballer of the Year, also played for Liverpool, Arsenal and China’s Dalian Quanjian.
