7 people taken to hospital after explosion in downtown Youngstown, 1 in critical condition

YOUNGSTOWN, Ohio (WOIO) – All Youngstown fire crews are on the scene of a “critical incident” downtown, according to Youngstown Fire Dispatch.

Youngstown police say there was an explosion in the area due to a gas-related issue at 2:45 p.m.

Seven victims were taken to hospital from the scene. One of them is in critical condition, according to Mercy Health Hospital in Youngstown.

Witnesses in the area claim to have heard a loud roar.

Firefighters say there are multiple injuries from the explosion.

Firefighters and police say they are still evacuating the building.

“At this time, we are in close contact with local officials to verify the safety of everyone in the building and area. After that, we will work to determine what happened and assess the damage,” said Angela Reighard-Rand of JPMorgan Chase.
