Ghana finishes fourth in WAFU Zone B U17 Championship

The national Under-17 team, Black Starlets, finished fourth in the WAFU Zone B Under-17 Championship after losing to Nigeria in the third-place playoff on Tuesday.

The Black Starlets were aiming for the bronze medal in the championship against the Golden Eaglets, but a late goal from Abdulmuiz Adeleke gave Nigeria a 3-2 victory.

The Golden Eaglets had taken an early lead in the match, but defender Harve Ghafa, who ultimately emerged as Player of the Match, restored parity for Ghana in the 19th minute.

Gbafa scored again with a beautiful free kick ten minutes after the equalizer to put Ghana ahead.

Five minutes before the break, Nigeria fought back and equalized.

The second half of the match was closely contested and just as the match was approaching penalty kicks to decide the winner, Nigeria’s Adeleke scored the winning goal with an elegant finish with just a minute left.

The Black Starlets’ dream of winning at least the bronze medal in the competition faded after the defeat against Nigeria.
