Strong reaction to RTÉ debate with Limerick mayoral candidates

The 15 mayoral candidates participated in last night’s program.

People have been sharing their views on social media about last night’s Upfront with Katie Hannon on RTÉ One.

The program featured two separate panels of candidates putting their names forward to become Limerick’s first directly elected mayor.

Eight candidates competed in the first part of the program and seven participated in the second half.

Some U-turns followed as a much smaller panel was initially planned with independent candidates and candidates from smaller parties invited to contribute just 60 seconds of the hearing, but after criticism of this decision, RTE revised its position and invited to all candidates on stage. .

Independent John Moran initially said he would not take part even if RTE made a 180-degree turn, but before the broadcast he changed his mind and agreed to sit on stage.

The show was broadcast on RTE 1 television from the city’s Lime Tree Theater to a live audience.
