National Choral Singing Competition of the Martyrs 2024: A celebration of faith and harmony

There are just a few days left until the long-awaited 2024 Martyrs National Choral Singing Competition, which will take place at the Serena Hotel this Friday. Anglican and Catholic choirs from across Uganda will gather to showcase their musical talents and choral prowess.

Celebration, not just a competition

Max Adii, project director, emphasized that the event is more than a competition; is a festival that celebrates Ugandan martyrs and the values ​​they embody, such as self-sacrifice, honesty, patriotism, hard work, commitment and truthfulness.

Awards

In recognition of their outstanding performances, the choirs will receive the following awards:

  • Winning Catholic and Anglican choirs: UGX 10 million each
  • First finalists: UGX 5 million each
  • Second runner-up: UGX 3 million each

historical meaning

June 3 commemorates the martyrdom of 45 young Christians, murdered for their faith between 1885 and 1887 by order of Kabaka Mwanga II. Their determination and sacrifice contributed significantly to the spread and growth of Christianity in Uganda.

Launch Event Highlights

Judge Catherine Bamugemereire, at the launch of the competition, expressed her gratitude to Vision Group for starting this event that unites Catholics and Anglicans. She highlighted the heroic sacrifices of martyrs and the importance of remembering them, which strengthens faith and hope among Christians.

Judge Bamugemereire stated: “May our shared values ​​of fervent faith, fellowship, unity, integrity, innovation, healthy competition, humility and service above self be asserted in this national martyrs choir singing competition.”

Gervase Ndyanabo, Secretary General and Deputy CEO of Vision Group, said the competition will improve the quality of choral performances in Uganda.
