Borussia Dortmund boss refuses to rule out Mason Greenwood move amid ‘exploratory’ talks with Man United – Man United News And Transfer News

Dortmund sporting director Sebastian Kehl has refused to rule out a move for Manchester United striker Mason Greenwood amid suggestions the two clubs have already held initial talks on the matter.

Greenwood confirmed his departure from Getafe over the weekend after a very successful loan spell with the Spanish club.

He scored 10 goals and six assists in 36 appearances in all competitions on his way to winning the club’s Player of the Season award.

He was an almost ever-present player for José Bordalás, as he helped Getafe finish 12th in La Liga. It is understandable that Getafe is interested in having him again for at least one more season.

However, Europe’s biggest clubs with much deeper pockets, such as Atlético Madrid and Juventus, are likely to outdo them in their efforts to lure him back to the Coliseum Stadium.

Barca have also been mentioned as an interested party in Greenwood, but links on that front appear to have cooled.

Another top club in Europe believed to be admirers of academy graduate Carrington is Dortmund and now The Telegraph has given a slight update on the matter.

The paper claims the Bundesliga giants have held “exploratory discussions” with United over a possible loan deal for Greenwood, who is also on the radar of at least two Premier League teams.

Dortmund sporting director Sebastian Kehl spoke to the media ahead of the club’s Champions League final match against Real Madrid this weekend and addressed the Greenwood rumours.

He said: “I don’t want to talk about any rumors right now because it doesn’t make sense. “Let’s play the final on Saturday first.”

“Of course, we have plans for next season and we have discussed many scenarios, but let’s focus on Saturday and then we will see how we move forward.”

When asked more about the Englishman and whether he is a footballer like Dortmund, Kehl replied: “I don’t want to talk about that now.”

It is understood that United’s preference would be to sell Greenwood permanently, but if this option does not materialise, the Red Devils are open to another loan deal with an obligation to buy for a fixed price.
