Oregon’s primary elections are today. Here’s how to submit your ballot

The 2024 primary election is right around the corner and ballots are due at a drop box or at the post office today.

There are a number of hot races that will be decided this week, particularly for many Democratic voters. The Democratic nomination races in the 3rd and 5th Congressional Districts have drawn national attention and drawn huge amounts of money from inside and outside Oregon to decide who will succeed retiring Rep. Earl Blumenauer in the 3rd and which Democrat will face first . Republican U.S. Rep. Lori Chavez-DeRemer in her fifth term this fall.

Major party voters are also selecting their candidates for Oregon secretary of state, treasurer and attorney general. And voters of all affiliations are electing county commissioners, district attorneys, sheriffs and other nonpartisan public officials. In the Portland metropolitan area, the race for Multnomah County district attorney is particularly close, pitting incumbent criminal justice reformer Mike Schmidt against a career prosecutor in the office, Nathan Vasquez.

There are also high-profile races for the Multnomah and Clackamas county commissions. And monetary measures ranging from school bonuses to the renewal of Portland’s gas tax and a bonus for the Oregon Zoo’s points voting.

And in many places around the state, including Portland, there are very close races for seats in the Oregon Legislature.

Ballots must be postmarked or dropped off by 8 pm at your county elections office or official drop box. County officials will accept your ballot if you are in line before 8 pm, you can drop it off.

For a list of ballot drop-off locations, see the county pages: Multnomah County, Clackamas County, and Washington County. Portland-area voters can also track their ballot once it is submitted.
