ANZ outage leaves thousands of customers unable to access money: ‘Absolutely ridiculous’

ANZ banking services are coming back online after a major outage left thousands of customers without access to their accounts.

The major bank confirmed that a “technological issue related to a third-party provider” was the source of the outage.

This prevented some customers from accessing systems such as the ANZ app, internet banking and ANZ Transactive Global for almost three hours.

ANZ confirmed that access to systems began to come back online from 2:45 p.m.

“We continue to work with our third-party provider to resolve any outstanding impacts as soon as possible and apologize for the inconvenience,” the bank said.

“The ANZ Plus app, phone banking, ATMs and EFTPOS facilities continue to be available during this time.”

Thousands of customers began reporting that the high street bank’s services had decreased as of 11:30 a.m. today, according to Downdetector.

Customers have also taken to social media to express their frustration over the outage, with some saying they were unable to pay their bills or purchases.

“I haven’t been able to access MY OWN money for over an hour… ABSOLUTELY RIDICULOUS!! Tomorrow I will change banks or go cash only. “Not enough!!” wrote one frustrated customer.

“OMG, trying to process payroll. This is unacceptable. My staff is counting on their salary! said another person.

Other customers said the disruption raised concerns about the move toward a cashless society.
